Harris Academy Wimbledon Receives 500 Expressions of Interest

Over 500 families have already expressed an interest in our new academy, which is opening in Wimbledon next year.

The new academy, which will have 120 places from September 2018, will initially be based in a refurbished adult education centre in Whatley Avenue before moving to its new, purpose-built school in High Path in 2020.

Principal Designate, Jo Larizadeh, said:

“There’s huge local interest in the new academy which is great. Building and developing a new school with the local community is a real privilege and it’s exciting to be able to share our plans with prospective parents.

“Over 500 families have already registered an interest. We are holding sessions for parents this week and asking any parents who are interested to get in touch with us. We hope local parents looking at their options for secondary schools in September 2018 will come and see what we have to offer.”

“Harris Academy Wimbledon will provide an outstanding education in an innovative, inclusive and happy environment. As well as promoting high levels of academic achievement and encouraging full participation in a range of extra-curricular opportunities, we want to support our students to make decisions wisely, ready for the challenges they will face as adults.

“As part of the Harris Federation, which already runs 44 successful schools in and around London, we have a great deal of experience of opening new schools. The temporary accommodation we will use for the first two years will be comfortable and well-resourced. Those first students will have the undivided attention of our teaching staff and lead the way for the following students as we move across to our new building in 2020.”

Interested parents and carers are invited to attend Open Evening sessions at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on Tuesday 3rd October at Merton Arts Space, Compton Rd, Wimbledon, London SW19 7QA. To find out more, please contact info@harriswimbledon.org.uk

Parents can also download a free ‘Harris Academy Wimbledon’ app to receive up-to-date news and information on the new academy.

For Harris Academy Wimbledon’s first year of operation, applications will not be through the common application form completed for Merton secondary schools. There will be a separate application form on our website to apply for a place. Parents must complete that form to be considered for a place.
