UCAS and Careers Support
At HAWI6, we are ambitious for every student’s future. The vast majority of our students go on to higher education, with many applying to Russell Group universities or competitive degree apprenticeships. We take great care in guiding students through the UCAS process and helping them make informed, aspirational choices.
Every student receives a one-to-one careers interview with our dedicated careers advisor, and our Director of Sixth Form conducts additional guidance interviews to support students with their university or apprenticeship applications. This personalised approach ensures that each student receives tailored advice based on their goals and strengths.
We also work closely with the Harris Federation and our expert careers advisor to provide targeted support for students pursuing degree apprenticeships. These students receive guidance on identifying high-quality opportunities, developing strong applications, and building the soft skills — such as communication, teamwork, and professionalism — that are essential for success in competitive recruitment processes.
Preparation for UCAS begins in the Spring Term of Year 12, with a structured programme of university visits, assemblies, and workshops. These sessions cover the UCAS process in detail, alongside practical guidance for applying to competitive courses such as Oxbridge, medicine, and veterinary science. Students are supported in developing strong personal statements, researching course options, and understanding what makes a successful application.
This support is further enhanced through our LAB and Super-Curricular programmes, which provide students with the academic depth, critical thinking, and enrichment experiences that top universities and employers value. From academic writing and public speaking to subject-specific exploration, these opportunities help students stand out.
In Year 13, each student is assigned a UCAS mentor who works closely with them on refining their personal statement and finalising course choices. Students also benefit from our partnership with King’s College School, including mock Oxbridge interviews and personal statement workshops.
We are proud that our first cohort of HAWI6 students has already achieved outstanding outcomes. Students have progressed to top destinations including the University of Cambridge, the University of Warwick, and many other prestigious institutions. Our rate of progression to Russell Group universities is already well above the national average — a testament to the ambition, talent, and hard work of our students and staff.
