HAWI6 16 - 19 Bursary

Many students at HAWI6 are entitled to the 16-19 Government Bursary Fund for students from low-income families and children in care. This Bursary helps with educational costs throughout the academic year.

Who is eligible for the bursary scheme?

The academy offers two types of bursary.  You can only apply for one type, depending on your personal circumstances.

The vulnerable bursary

To be eligible for the vulnerable bursary you must meet all four of the following conditions:

  1. Attend HAWI6
  2. Be starting Year 12 or 13 in September 2024
  3. Be aged between 16 and 18 on 31 August 2024
  4. Belong to one of the following groups: 
  • young person in care, including unaccompanied asylum- seeking child
  • young care leaver; or 
  • be receiving income support or universal credit in own right
  • be receiving Employment Support Allowance and are also in receipt of Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payments.

The discretionary bursary

To be eligible for the discretionary bursary you must meet four of the following conditions:

  1. Attend HAWI6   
  2. Be starting Year 12 or 13 in September 2024
  3. Be aged between 16 and 18 on 31 August 2024
  4. Living in a household with an annual income below £40,000 before tax and national insurance or receive free school meals
  5. An accompanied asylum seeker.

Students will need to re-apply for the bursary each academic year.
