Admissions Consultation - Your View Welcome
The Governing Body of Harris Academy Wimbledon are consulting on admission arrangements for students applying for places for the academic year beginning in September 2023. We are required to consult on our admission arrangements when there are significant changes and/or at least every seven years.
The consultation will run over 7 weeks from Thursday 9th December 2021.
We believe it is important for all stakeholders, including prospective parents and carers, to understand how our Academy manages the admission process. The Trust Board have developed a Trust-wide template policy for use by all Harris academies to ensure consistency, clarity and compliance with the Admission Code. This may look different to previous policies, but we are simply setting out our existing criteria in a clearer way.
Proposed changes to the policy are to include allocating up to 10% of the places available within the PAN to children who demonstrate an aptitude for Music and the introduction of a Sixth Form, further information is listed below. The full draft admissions arrangements for 2023-2024 can be downloaded below:

Musical Aptitude Places
We have introduced ‘Musical Aptitude Places' as a category to reflect our excellence in Music.
The Academy will allocate up to 10% of the places available within the PAN (18 places) to children who demonstrate an aptitude for music.
Children who wish to be considered for an aptitude place will sit a musical aptitude test. This test is designed not to determine the child's current musical ability, but their aptitude for learning music in the future, with a threshold having been set to determine qualification for consideration for a place.
Introduction of a Sixth Form
All current Year 11 pupils at the Academy wishing to transfer to Year 12, and all external candidates applying for admission to Year 12, must meet the minimum academic entry criteria set out in the table below:
A levels - A grade point average (GPA) of at least 6.5 across all GCSEs studied, with a minimum of 8 GCSEs taken including English Language and Mathematics at grade 5 (plus Subject Specific Requirements)
'Subject Specific Requirements' means the additional entry requirements for specific subjects/courses, as set out in the Minimum Academic Entry Criteria - Subject Specific Requirements document, which is published alongside the Admissions Policy.
The Minimum Academic Entry Criteria is the same for Year 11 pupils and external candidates. Once met, Year 11 students will transfer to Year 12. All external candidates meeting the minimum threshold will be on an equal footing for places, with the oversubscription criteria being applied where there are more eligible applications than places available.
