HAWI Futures

Careers Education, Information and Guidance (CEIAG) and Work Related Learning (WRL)

HAWI Futures: every student leaves us ready to create a future that is ambitious, fulfilling and uniquely their own.

Our planned programme of careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) and work-related learning helps all students develop the skills, knowledge, confidence and understanding they need to make informed choices about education, training and employment.

Our provision is impartial, tailored to individual needs and delivered in partnership with students, parents and carers, teachers, employers, training providers and our Federation Careers Advisers (Keally Baldwin and Soledad Pombo). Our programme is aligned with the Gatsby Benchmarks and the Department for Education's careers guidance requirements and led by Isabella Vernon, the Academy’s trained Careers Leader.

Our Vision & Programme

At Harris Academy Wimbledon, our vision is to empower every student to explore their potential, broaden their horizons and make ambitious, informed choices about their future.

HAWIES LEARNING JOURNEY 7 13

From Year 7 onwards, we connect learning with the world beyond the classroom, providing students with meaningful encounters with employers, education providers and workplaces. Through high-quality careers education, guidance and experiences, we develop the knowledge, skills, confidence and resilience students need to navigate their next steps and thrive in an ever-changing world.

Alongside the built-in Careers Curriculum for students at HAWI there is an array of regular events, subject specific enrichment, and support activities, including meaningful interactions with employers.

HAWI Unifrog - Never too early to start thinking about your career

All pupils from Years 7 have access to The Unifrog platform, designed to support pupils in making the most informed decisions about their futures. This has a range of tools that are suitable for all year groups. Each pupil has their own personal account that provides a wide range of information related to their interests and aspirations.

How to log on:
Pupils access the platform by clicking a link in their welcome email, where they create a password and can begin using the platform. They login to Unifrog using their school email address (ending in @harriswimbledon.org.uk) and password and they can do so from any computer, tablet or smartphone.

Download our How to guide - Logging into HAWI Unifrog

Key features of the platform include:

Exploring Pathways:
Explore pathways using personality quizzes, career and subject profiles, MOOCs (online courses) and webinars.

Explore what subjects you would be interested in studying and how these choices can lead to different career paths and higher education.

EP

Recording - self-reflection about extracurricular activities and key employability skills.

Record

Opportunities - search tools showing live vacancies/courses/placements for apprenticeships, universities (in the UK and abroad), FE, virtual work experience and much more.

Search

Applications - tools to help pupils build applications for a range of pathways (e.g., CVs, Personal Statements, Common App Essays).

We evaluate our careers programme using student participation and feedback through student voice, information recorded through Unifrog and Compass+ data and questionnaires, alongside feedback from staff, parents/carers, employers and other partners.

We use this information to review the programme and identify improvements so that careers provision continues to meet students' needs.

When considering future career options it's important to have a good understanding of the employment prospects within that industry, i.e. is it a growing or declining sector?

Careerometer can be used to explore and compare key information about occupations, help you learn about different occupations and identify potential careers.

It provides access to a selection of UK headline data relating to pay, weekly hours of work and future employment prospects for different occupations, as well as description of the occupation.

Simply type in the title of the job you are interested in and the widget provides a series of options from which you can select the most relevant to you. You can then look up another two occupations and compare. You can also select ‘display the UK average’ and compare the information with the occupation you have selected.
