HAWI6 Personal Development

Personal Development at HAWI6 is a coherent and well-planned programme that prepares students effectively for their next stage of education, employment or training. It is rooted in the school’s motto, “Make a Difference”, and underpinned by the values of Independence, Integrity and Resilience. The programme ensures that students develop the knowledge, skills and character needed to thrive in their future and to contribute positively to society.

Key components include:

· PSHE and RS

A planned and progressive curriculum that develops students’ understanding of health and wellbeing, relationships, equality and diversity, ethical issues, citizenship and personal safety. Content is age-appropriate and supports the development of resilience, integrity and informed decision-making.

· Careers Education and Guidance

Careers education is embedded throughout the sixth form experience. Students receive impartial guidance on a wide range of post-18 options, supported by work experience, employer engagement and opportunities to develop employability skills.

· Wider Learning and Super-Curricular Enrichment

Weekly wider learning opportunities encourage reading, research, debate and intellectual curiosity beyond A levels. This is complemented by subject societies, scholarship pathways, and Learning Above and Beyond (LAB) and super-curricular programmes, which deepen subject knowledge and prepare students for competitive university courses.

· Student Leadership, Societies and Community Engagement

Students are actively encouraged to take on leadership roles through student-led societies, mentoring and enrichment activities. Every Friday, students also participate in structured community service, giving back to the local community while developing key employability skills such as teamwork, communication and leadership.

· Daily Tutor Time with an Experienced Post-16 Tutor

Students have daily tutor time with an experienced post-16 tutor who knows them well. This provides consistent pastoral support, regular academic and personal guidance, and early identification of any concerns, ensuring students feel supported and able to succeed.

As a result of this provision:

· Students are confident, articulate and increasingly independent learners

· Students demonstrate mature attitudes to learning, strong self-discipline and resilience

· Students are well informed about future pathways and make ambitious, realistic post-18 choices

· Students engage positively with leadership opportunities and contribute to the wider school community

· Students feel safe, supported and valued, and know where to seek help when needed

Students leave HAWI well prepared for life beyond sixth form, equipped with the personal, social and emotional skills required to succeed and to make a positive contribution to society.

Wellbeing and Safeguarding

Wellbeing is embedded across the sixth form experience. Pastoral systems are robust, and staff work closely with students to promote positive mental health and resilience.
