I send this on the last day of what has been a very unusual term and I would like to use this opportunity to pay tribute to a number of different people.
Firstly, I would like to thank the students. What I have been most impressed with is their kindness, cheerfulness and positivity in coping with the new guidelines of school life. As the number of positive cases in Merton and the school has increased, we must not let this dominate our thoughts. We must celebrate the incredible success of the students. During the term we moved into a brand new building and the students have been able to enjoy all of the new facilities. We have celebrated Black History Month, had numerous house competitions, charity week, anti-bullying week, a book fair and an amazing extra-curricular programme. The school council meetings have been very positive and they always strive to make our learning environment a better place. A special mention must go to Year 7 who have coped brilliantly in their first term of secondary school.
I would like to thank you, the parents and carers, who have been exceptionally supportive during this term. Thank you for your kind messages, Christmas cards and general support of the school which I am incredibly grateful for. I look forward to the future when I can invite you in to see this great new building and talk to you personally.
Finally, I would like to thank the staff who have done an incredible job in keeping school life as normal as possible for the students. They have adapted where they have needed to, and have been tremendous in their response to the pandemic to keep HAWI safe.
I am incredibly proud to work with such a great community.
I wish you all a very safe and happy festive break.
