Resources

You can borrow two books at a time for 14 days. The library is in an exciting phase, growing its stock in preparation for the move to the new building. Teachers and students have an active input in the purchase of fiction and non-fiction books to ensure the library’s resources are relevant to all students’ interests and educational needs. If you can’t find the book you’re looking for, just ask us and we will consider ordering it in.

The Harris Academy Library welcomes donations of books from families and appreciates the generosity behind these donations, that supports all students at Academy.

The library only accepts the following donations:  

Fiction Books:  

  • Must be middle grade or young adult fiction 
  • must be in excellent / very good condition - no rips, writing, stains  
  • must not be from any other library 

Non-Fiction Books:  

  • must be published 2017 or later 
  • must be in excellent / very good condition - no rips, writing, stains  
  • must not be from any other library 

Any books that don't meet these criteria will need to be taken away for disposal elsewhere.

Reading events and activities

The library facilitates events all year round to promote a love of reading.  We host an annual Book Fair and celebrate National Poetry Day and World Book Day. All students are encouraged to take part in the House Reading Challenge, which runs throughout the academic year.

Each academic year, a group of students will be invited to shadow the judging process for the prestigious Carnegie Book Award.
