I hope everyone is keeping safe and well. Unfortunately, we are not going to be able to invite parents and carers into the academy for Honours Evening. As I am sure you are aware, there is a high rate of positive cases of Covid-19 in Merton and I don’t think it will be sensible to have a mixture of 300 adults and students in the school hall. However, we are very much looking forward to our Honours Day which we will hold in school on Monday 19th July and we will send you details next week about how you will be able to watch it from home.
I am absolutely delighted that Stuart Lawrence will be our guest speaker at Honours Day. His brother Stephen Lawrence, was murdered in a racially motivated attack in 1993, and the Lawrence family’s tireless campaign for justice has led to cultural shifts and changes in attitudes towards racism within British society. Stuart Lawrence worked as a teacher for fifteen years and he is now a motivational speaker, a writer and works with the education system to equip young people with the mindset to believe and achieve what they want in life, no matter the challenges they might face. In his book, ‘Silence Is Never an Option’ Lawrence talks about what he has learned from life; the tools that have helped him live positively and kept him moving forwards when times have been tough. From role models to self-control Lawrence uses his own experience to help all people to harness the good in themselves and in the world around them, using that fire of positivity to create change in their lives. We look forward to meeting him.
Best wishes for an enjoyable weekend,
